February, 2016

The free training went well with very good lap times during the prior weekend. Then the wind started during the official training sessions. In heat one the chassis broke and had to be welded. Only the last heat was good and I ended it on the eight position. At least I could directly enter the finals without starting in the second chance heat. After the start in the final I gained positions and at one point was on the 13th position when I was involved in an accident that bent the chassis. Nevertheless, I finished the race on position 20.

April, 2016

A superb race in Genk at the Euro Challenge! This was the first time I started with the Coles team from the UK. Only the third heat on Saturday was acceptable in which I finished on eighth position. I was directly in the finals on Sunday on 19th position. A heavy accident in the first Sunday race did cause a wrecked chassis. There I could only start from the 32nd position and advanced well during the race. I finished on the 20th position from 54 competitors.

The first Rotax race in Switzerland in the 2016 season in Mirecourt. A race in the rain. Practically the whole weekend was driven in the rain. The result: first in the qualifying practice. First in both heats and first in the final. Also the fastest lap in the final race.

The first round of the Kart Academy took place in Essay France. I entered the final race and ranked 21st out of 50 drivers from 39 nations. Finally I crossed the finish line on 21st position and proud to represent Switzerland at the Academy Trophy. A first round at the Academy with big ups and downs. We knew we could do better but needed to work hard on it in the next few weeks until the second round in Portimão end of June.

May, 2016

A great week of racing started on the 10th of May in Pavia and ended on the 16th in Wohlen. Two races were planned. In the Euro Challenge I had a good qualifying and ranked 18th. In the following three heats I had very good results and ended each on either position nine or ten. This helped me to enter directly the finals, where I could start on the eight grid. I won a few position and could start from grid six in the final. I lost some positions in the final race and finished on 23rd. Straight after the race we headed for Wohlen to participate at the RMC Switzerland second round. We arrived at track at 11:30 PM and had to prepare the kart for the Wohlen race. We took the risk and started without any previous training in Wohlen! I won the qualifying and secured the pole position. I won the two pre-finals and became second in the final race!

A perfect weekend for me in Pavia. In the third race at the Rotax Max Switzerland, I was able to show a consistent performance. Although I only finished second in qualifying practice, I was able to win all the race heats and even set the fastest lap in the final heat. The good result helped me to extend the lead in the championship. After three of six races, I lead the championship.

June 16, 2016

I faced much difficulties in adjusting from MOJO to the much softer VEGA tires and my track times were not very convincing. Nevertheless, I secured the 12th best qualifying time. In the first heat I ended on the 16th position but crashed in the second heat. As a consequence I had to start in the second chance heat. A heavy accident and the loss of engine cooling water rounded up the race meeting in Portimão. Indeed, a very frustrating event for me. On the other side a great learning experience.

The fourth race of the Rotax Max Switzerland took place in Levier. During the qualifying practice in Levier, it was already clear that the competition was not sleeping and I was unfortunately only able to finish third. In the three following races I was able to take second place. Many thanks to Dennis Woik who once again provided me with an optimum support. 

August 21. 2016

We did it! We became Swiss Rotax Max Junior Champions. In the fifth race of the Swiss Rotax Championship, I won all the races. We were so happy to not only win this race, but also to win the Swiss Rotax Championship through a clean sweep! This meant that I could participate at the world final in Sarno, Italy in the second half of October! So happy to win this important title.

In the qualifying I achieved the seventh best time amongst 25 drivers. I won the pre-final but got a ten second penalty. The final race had to be started from the fifth position. Due to a perfect start I could gain directly five positions and finally ended the race on the second position. After the first one got a disqualification, I was announced as the winner of this race!

October 16 - 22, 2016

An amazing week at the world final 2016 in Sarno for me. I started well into the event with very good practice sessions. I became fourth in the qualifying session out of 72 drivers. In the following heats I ended on P2 and twice on P3. This resulted in the pole position in the pre-final, which I finished in the second position. Starting from the second row in the final began well and I defended my position. In the second lap I was pushed out and reentered the race at the end of the field. Nevertheless, I gained positions and finally finished P13. Still a good result but a lot of frustration for me. This year, the Swiss team ranked fifth in the nations cup of the world final. 52 nations were participating. Last year Switzerland was on 25th position. Total points in 2016 were 974. I contributed 325 points to this great result.
