The second Rotax Mini season got off to a good start for me. After the rainy and cold Saturday training sessions, the weather was fine on Monday, the race day. I achieved third place each, in the qualifying practice, heat one and two as well as in the final race.

I was able to compete as a guest driver at the German RMC. The 'Tom Tech'-Team from Peine took me in and the race weekend was a great experience. Although the race results were not quite good, I was able to learn a lot. I finished the qualifying practice in fourth place, but unfortunately I had an accident in the pre-final, which resulted in a total breakdown.

The second race in Mirecourt was a bitter disappointment. Although it started well because I was among the front runners, unfortunately the race could not be completed! In heat two, in fourth position, my engine was checked while it was warm, which means that the gap was measured as too small. The subsequent measurements, while it was cold, within a test laboratory with certified tools, showed that the engine did meet the requirements. The lost points were hard to digest, all the more because I started from the front row of the grid in heat two.

On Friday we were able to test various settings in very good conditions. From Saturday lunchtime onwards, rain was on the cards, this also determined the course of the race on Sunday, with changing weather on and on. I was sixth in the qualifying practice and fourth in the pre-final. Unfortunately, after a brutal start on the grass, I lost a few places in the first final lap. I was able to finish fifth and won my first trophy in Germany!

On the Saturday of the race, training was only possible in the rain. It was quite difficult to find a set-up. Everyone was looking forward to race Sunday, hoping for dry weather. However, drizzle, fog and a wet track were present until midday. I had a bad start in the morning and was only able to get up to speed in heat two, where I finished second. In the final, I finished fourth. In the Levier race I joined a team with Alex Elmiger (Junior), actively supported by Bino Barone. I had to say goodbye to Cornelia and Romeo Maggi and Donatello from the Blacky Team.

Finally a Rotax race in the dry! It was the first race of the year and it wasn't even wet or cold. The track demanded a lot from me and I was very tired in training on Friday, I could hardly move my arms. On Saturday and Sunday it became even warmer! For the race, the track was really difficult to drive because of all the grip. During the qualifying practice, my mechanic and I unfortunately agreed on the wrong strategy and from the third lap onwards I was no longer able to improve. Meaning I had to start the race from eighth position. I then finished seventh in the pre-final. Benefitting from a crash in front of me, I became fifth. The last few laps were a close fight with the racer ahead of me. Fifth on the podium for me!

On Saturday it rained as usual and the rain training went quite well. However, it was not possible to work out a dry set-up. In the two training sessions on race day on Sunday, a reasonably suitable set-up was found and I was then able to place sixth in the qualifying practice. Step by step I was able to work my way forward. I finished fifth in heat one and third in heat two. In the final, I finished fourth.

I had the rare opportunity to test a Haase chassis, organized by our German team owner Tom, who represents Haase in Germany. I was also able to test different brake systems for the world final Mini chassis. This was a great possibility to look into a world class kart chassis manufacturer who produces very competitive kart chassis.

My 900km journey to this race was totally worth it. I was able to train really well on Friday and try out different settings, which we were able to continue on Saturday during official training. The weather was very good. No rain and a dry track for once. Even the clouds that came up from time to time couldn't dampen my motivation. On race Sunday, I had the second-best time in the qualifying practice and I was able to start from the front row for the first time at the RMC Germany. I lost two valuable places at the start and another a little later. In the second half of the race I was able to make up for everything and was then first place in the pre-final. This meant, that I could start from pole in the final. My first pole in the Rotax! I had a start-finish victory in the final.

On Friday training was only possible in the morning in the dry. In the early afternoon heavy rain, lightning and thunder set in. I did some training sessions in the rain before we went to clean the karts.

On Saturday we were able to test under good conditions and after some back and forth we worked out a good set-up. By the evening we were quite well prepared with the kart and the driving line.
August 11, 2013
On race Sunday I had a bad start in the qualifying practice and once the tires were well set up, I got stuck behind another driver. I finished fourth and secured a place on the second row of the grid. In the pre-final I had a very good start and fought for third position. However, shortly before the end I was taken my position and finished fourth. The final race was extremely exciting. I again started from the second row and improved to third position. After a fight for second position with another racer, I came third in the final. With that, I was now in fourth place in the championship!

We went into training on Friday full of motivation. Unfortunately it changed quickly, when we noticed our totaled race engine. After that, a faulty battery costed us a lot of valuable time on Saturday. Only in the evening we finished with a reasonably good set-up. Sunday started with beautiful weather and I showed a good warm-up. I was then fifth in the qualifying practice but couldn't get out of the key bend before the chicane. Although I reached an absolute top speed on the long straight, the key bend costed me valuable meters. I finished fifth in both heats. I improved to fourth place in the final.

The sixth and last race of the Rotax Max Germany. We were initially unable to find a suitable set-up and I finished second last in the qualifying practice. In the pre-final I fought my way to fourth place and could start from this position in the final race. I immediately took third place with a clever overtaking maneuver and attacked the racer in front of me. The material was now perfect and I have been very fast. On the fifth lap, the driver in front of me braked on the straight and I spun. This put me in second last place in the final race. I finished fourth in the championship, four points behind third. All in all, it was a successful start to the German RMC Championship.

I was able to show performances and finished second in the final race. My good form on the day was already evident in the heats. I came second in the first heat and third in the second heat. Thanks to good starts, I always positioned myself at the front and had absolute top speed in the final run, which also gave me the fastest race lap!
